MENOPAUSE

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine treatments have been used to successfully treat all types of menopausal issues for thousands of years.  At Lotus, we will partner with you to move through your menopause journey with grace and vitality.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views menopause as a woman’s 'Second Spring' , reflecting the newfound life that is possible for her as she enters a stage where she is able to begin to move her energies away from nurturing others and finally direct them towards nurturing herself.    This 'Second Spring' is viewed as a positive time of creativity and new beginnings, when women often find a new and more confident lifestyle.

The TCM diagnosis of menopausal is a deficient of the kidneys.  We focus on the Kidney because according to Chinese medicine, the Kidney's foundation for the body’s reproduction and longevity.  The most common cause in menopause is a deficiency of yin, which is the fluid aspect of the body. Yin is similar to estrogen.

Without sufficient yin, our yang heats up, producing the hot flashes, sweating, insomnia, dry skin, vaginal dryness, headaches, ringing in the ears and of course mood disharmonies  such as anxiety, fear, irritability anger and depression. Some menopausal women experience a decreased function of Yang , the fire aspect of our body, which manifests as fatigue, weight-gain, water retention, incontinence, depression and low libido.

Acupuncture, herbal remedies, nutritional adjustments, natural supplements, lifestyle  qi gong and meditation are the tools we employ when addressing menopause.  We take into consideration the whole person, knowing that every aspect of a woman’s life can be impacted by this challenging and yet exciting time. We believe taking customized Chinese herbal formulas will accelerate the healing process and provide symptom relief.  Many clinical studies of  herbs have  been proven to be safe and effective.
